Sharon attended Dentistry at No.3 and initially met with our Smile Advisor Leigh. She explained that she was unhappy with her broken down teeth and felt like they were constantly chipping and breaking away. Sharon said her teeth had been patched up and nothing seemed to last and she was very self conscious about her smile. Ideally she would like a Smile Makeover, as well as generally making the mouth more healthy and stable. She had been thinking about treatment for some time and was motivated for dental work.

The Treatment

The treatment began by visiting our therapist Kirsty who ensured the mouth was as healthy as possible before starting the treatment with Ali.

Ali started the process by digitally designing the position of the new teeth and reorganising the bite into a more protected position, so that the completed treatment would be more predictable and long lasting.Following this, two teeth which had a poor prognosis, were removed, whilst Ali also prepared the neighbouring teeth and placed some temporary restorations to ensure there were no visible gaps in her smile whilst things were healing. Sharon’s lower teeth had significant wear and the next step was to rebuild these with tooth coloured composite which restored the teeth back to a normal size and shape.

The remaining teeth were then transitioned in to temporary restorations in the position of the new bite and shape. This transition is a crucial stage to ensure that Sharon was both comfortable when chewing, but also happy with the size and shape of the new teeth.

Once we confirmed that Sharon was functioning well, and was delighted with the improvement to the shape and symmetry of the temporary teeth, we proceeded to make and fit the final ceramic restorations. This treatment from start to finish took around five months.

I’ve been ok with dentists and needles but there is something about getting work done that I get really anxious about. I had a filling on the NHS which chipped after 2 weeks. I saw Fraser for an appointment on the Monday who took the time to talk me through all my options and show me what was going on. 3 days later and I’m being seen (after I finished work for the day) by the excellent Natalie for a clean and to have it repaired (compared to the 2 months from identifying I needed the filling to having it done on the NHS). I was very nervous about the repair but she has a lovely calm demeanour which puts you at ease. She took her time, and it never felt like she was stressed or rushed, and she was happy to answer my questions after about taking care of her handiwork and how long the repair will last. She took her time with the anaesthetic and I felt far more numb (and so I was confident I was numb) than on the NHS. Even her assistant checked in if I was ok. The drill was also so much quieter than what I’d been used to on the NHS, and I didn’t realise how much that sound had put me on edge.I love the NHS so wasn’t sure about going private, but the whole experience felt so different. I usually come away from a filling feeling tense and ashamed. I realised I’d started to relax before Natalie had finished her work, and I left feeling that next time I need work done I don’t need to spend the afternoon worrying about it.

Today I got my implants fitted to say it was a journey is an understatement (extractions, bone and gum grafts). I was petrified of the dentist…I would shake to the point it felt like I was having a fit in the chair and I would sob!! Today there was no sobs or shaking and that was down to Ali. I was SO nervous to get my few bottom teeth out, that's why I waited so long. But Ali and the team assured me all would be good, and they were not wrong.I have my top and bottom teeth done and I'm so so happy with the results. I have had massive problems with my teeth for many years.
